Byron Isamu Nagata

July 16, 1945 — March 19, 2025

Byron Isamu Nagata, beloved father and grandfather, age 79, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2025, at St. Luke’s Magic Valley Medical Center in Twin Falls, Idaho.

Born July 16, 1945 in Rexburg, Idaho to Sadao “Sid” and Sumiko “Sue” Nagata. He had a brother (Terrell) and sister (Ann) and the family moved often due to the military engineering career of Sadao. Byron lived in Japan, Georgia, Germany, and Ohio while growing up with his family in his early years and graduated from Wayne High School in Dayton, Ohio.

Byron served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Japan South Mission and graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelors of Science degree. He served in the US Army Reserve for 10 years while living in Colorado. He later moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1999 and then to Rupert, Idaho in 2019.

He is survived by his three sons, Scott (Angela) Nagata, Steven Nagata, Kenny (Melissa) Nagata and daughter Jenny Lei Wunder (Raymond). His brother Terrell (Leah) Nagata and sister Ann Morris (John).

In addition to his four children, Byron has 9 grandchildren; Makana, Temana and Tamatoa Nagata; Kylee, Jaron, Ethan and Bryley Wunder; Evelyn and Henry Nagata.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 P.M. at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.  The grave is above 11th Avenue about 950 East, (west of City View Mortuary) Salt Lake City, UT 84103.

The family expresses special appreciation to Paul Differding who rendered extraordinary care to Byron for many years in Las Vegas, Nevada and Rupert, Idaho and Dylan Differding who watched over Byron’s care in medical facilities in Twin Falls, Idaho.
