Bryant LaVern Cox, 86, died November 13, 2022 in his Cottonwood Heights home, surrounded by loving family. He was born with bright red hair on June 18, 1936 on the family farm in Fairview, Utah, to Edmond LaVern Cox and Melba Anderson Cox. He remained a farm boy that never got the farm out of him.
He attended Brigham Young University and later Iowa State, where he met and married Betty Poynor in the Manti Temple on June 29, 1962. They are the parents of 6 children. Bryant loved to work with his kids and taught them all the value of hard work. Some of his favorite times were those spent sitting around the dinner table enjoying time together as a family.
Bryant worked as a teacher of math and science as well as a school counselor. He owned and operated his own landscaping and excavating business. He loved working with his hands, and had many skills and hobbies, such as welding, lapidary, woodworking, leather work, jewelry making, and more.
As a follower of Jesus Christ and an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Bryant spent his life serving others. He went on proselytizing missions to Montana as a young man and to Louisiana as a retired couple, served as a bishop of the Butler 7th Ward, and helped countless others through civic and personal service.
Bryant is survived by his wife, Betty Poynor Cox; his 6 children and their spouses: Allan (and Terri) Cox, Kevin (and Janell) Cox, Ryan (and Carolyn) Cox, Joanna (and Merrill) Squire, Ladawn (and Greg) Mahrt, and Spencer (and Annaliese) Cox; his sister, Yvonne (and David) Starr; and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held November 18, 2022 at 9-10:45 a.m. and the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. at Butler 7th ward building, 1355 East 7200 South. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Fairview City Cemetery.
