Bill W. Nielson, passed away December 11, 2016, at the home of his son in West Jordan, Utah. Born March 25, 1921 in Midvale, Utah to Albert Valdermar Nielson and Sadie Leoretta Johnson.
Bill was educated in the Jordan School District and graduated from Jordan High School in 1939. He was a member of the L.D.S. Church.
Bill joined the US Army during World War II and became an Army Air Force pilot. He served during the Korean War mapping the Alaskan coastline by way of helicopter and the interior by way of fixed wing aircraft. Bill flew about four thousand hours in fixed wing aircraft and three thousand hours in helicopters. He served in the Utah National Guard, retiring as a Full Colonel and Chief of Staff under General Watts and General Hixon.
Survived by sons, Kim (Coleen) and Kurt (Robyn) Nielson, 4 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy Spencer Nielson; brothers, Gordon A. Nielson, Wayne A. Nielson and sisters, Florence Nielson Hilton, Betty Nielson Fairborn and step-father Lawrence Hilton.
A memorial service will be held Friday, March 24, 2017 at the Chapel at Utah Veterans Memorial Park, 17111 Camp Williams Road Bluffdale, Utah. Services will be at 11 a.m. with dedication of the grave for Bill and Dorothy to follow at Midvale City Cemetery, 471 West 7500 South, Midvale, Utah.
