It is with great sadness that the family of Barbara Martinez is announcing the passing of our beloved Mother, Grand Mother, Great Grandmother, Great-Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and dear friend on Friday, March 5, 2021 following a courageous battel with the Coronavirus.
Barbara was born in Saguache Colorado on April 8, 1940 to Sally and Lawrence Manchego. At the age of 3 she moved with her parents and two sisters and brother to Salt Lake City, UT where at the age of 13, she met the love of her life Larry Joe Martinez. They married October 31, 1959. Together they raised their Daughter and Son in West Valley City, Utah. Barbara and Larry were soul mates that loved each other dearly and were happily married until his death in 2017.
Barbara will be dearly missed by her Daughter Debbie Martinez-Orth and Tom, Son Larry A. Martinez, Grandson Randy Holdaway and Emily, Grandson Jered Holdaway, Granddaughter Shela Holdaway Nissen and Brendan, 9 great grandchildren, great-great granddaughter, sister Viola Perry, many nieces and nephews, dear friends, and her special four-legged partner Charlie.
Barbara was a gracious host who was magical in the kitchen, loved spending time with her family and friends and talking on the phone. She was crafty with crocheting and drawing, loved to do puzzles, listen to music (Andrea Bocelli) and watch TV: Cowboy shows, Parry Mason, Dateline and CNN. She enjoyed shopping, travelling, going out to lunch, swimming in her son’s pool, being outside in her patio watching hummingbirds and tracking her steps with her daughter. She was a very generous, kind, warm, spiritual, cute, sweet woman that welcomed everyone with a smile, love, open arms, and good food.
Barbara retired from the State of Utah where she was the supervisor of the kitchen at Decker Lake Youth Corrections. She was also a waitress and cook at Salt Lake Community College and the Oaken Bucket restaurant.
Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband Larry on December 6, 2017, and her parents Sally and Lawrence Manchego, Brother Lawrence Manchego Jr., and Sister Deloris Herrera.
