Cottonwood Heights

Barbara Ann Ciaramella (née Martens), affectionately known as Barb, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2024, at the age of 72, in Cottonwood Heights, Utah. Born on April 30, 1952, in New York, NY, she was a fiercely loyal individual and cherished by all who knew her.

Barbara grew up in the Flushing neighborhood of Queens, NY with her parents and three sisters. In her youth she attended Mother Butler Memorial High School in the Bronx and spent the summers at the Sun and Surf Beach Club where she swam competitively.

As a young adult she took the train to and from Manhattan while working for CBS, a job she loved, and always spoke fondly of. It was at this time she met and fell in love with her husband Frank in 1973. The two would be married in 1975.

In 1979 they moved to Colorado and started their family. In 1988 they relocated to Utah where Barbara lived the remainder of her life. Here she raised her two boys and worked in the local schools, mainly helping as a teacher’s aide for the special education classes.

Barbara loved getting people together and spent a lot of her time hosting and entertaining family and friends. If there was good food, cold white wine, and people she loved, she was happy.

Barbara is survived by her devoted husband, Frank, and their loving sons, Matthew and Travis. She also leaves behind her daughter-in-law, McKensey, and two cherished granddaughters, Izabelle Grace and Vivien Rose. Barbara's memory will also be held dear by her sisters, Kathy (Andrew), Nancy (Billy), and Laura (Joe), sister-in-law Carol (Royce), her many nieces and nephews, and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Warren and Rosemary.

A memorial service to celebrate Barbara's life will be held on Friday, September 6, at 2:00 PM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, located at 3015 Creek Rd, Cottonwood Heights, UT 84093.

In honoring Barbara's memory, the family requests that contributions be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Association. Donations can be made online at alz.org.
