Boone Newson

“Every Day is a Gift” 

Avery Boone Newson, 97, passed away peacefully on December 20th, 2024. 

Boone was born November 13th, 1927 in Salt Lake City to Avery Bradlaugh and Arvilla Sorenson Newson. He married Beverly Hansen, had 5 children, and later divorced. 

Boone served in the Air Force during the Korean War and afterwards in the Air Force Reserves. 

He enjoyed learning and received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering as well as a Master's Degree in Engineering Physics. He served as an Engineering Manager at Sperry Univac, and later became a real estate broker – a career he enjoyed for 39 years. Boone was also a Captain in the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Reserve. To keep himself busy in retirement, he taught Calculus at Salt Lake Community College until the age of 90. 

Boone was an avid outdoorsman participating in many marathons, triathlons and bike races, as well as mountain climbing and skiing. He enjoyed working in his yard with his special puppies, Licorice, Cathy, Paula, and Bandit by his side. 

He is survived by his 5 children, Kim (Steve) McCarrel, Dick (Dana) Newson, Kirk (Kelly) Newson, Steve (Maria) Newson, Dawn (Garen) Brecke, 15 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, one great, great granddaughter, as well as many loved nieces and nephews. 

Boone was preceded in death by his parents, brother Wayne (Muriel) Newson, longtime partner Marcia Anderton, and great grandson Damon Newson.

Friends may call at the Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E Bengal Blvd on Saturday December 28th, 2024 from 10am until noon for a viewing/celebration of life. Graveside services will be held at Memorial Mountain View, 3115 East Bengal Blvd, at 12:30.
