Arthur James Hicks Jr., age 89 passed away of causes incident to age on October 24, 2015.
Born July 13, 1926, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Arthur James Hicks Sr. and Lois Marie McLaren. Married Marilyn Newell on March 23, 1951, in the Salt Lake Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah.
Art attended Granite High School, immediately following high school he enlisted in the United States Navy, Naval Air Corps where he served honorably during World War II. After his return from military service he attended The University of Utah, where he earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering and was captain of the swim team. Art was a Professional Engineer, an Engineering Sales Professional, Pilot, and Entrepreneur.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was known in his ward as the “jolly rancher man”.
Art is survived by his wife Marilyn, sons James E. Hicks and Paul D. (Karen) Hicks, 6 grandchildren, one great granddaughter; and sisters Gene McGee and Janice Kump. He was preceded in death by his sister Beverly Beck and his brother Robert S. Hicks.
Funeral services will be held Friday October 30, 2015, 11:00 am at the Holladay 8 th ward chapel; 5450 South Holladay Blvd. Friends may call the day of the service at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Interment to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the LDS Church Perpetual Education Fund.
