Mary Annaleen Mooy, beloved sister, aunt, teacher, and devoted friend to many, age 65, peacefully passed away on January 15, 2024, due to complications of a brain tumor. Anna was born in Salt Lake City March 29, 1958 to William and Wanda Mooy. Her loving Stepfather was the late Bert Freed. Married to Brent Braithwaite in Sandy, Utah, August 8, 2000. They later divorced but remained devoted friends.  

Anna’s Mezzo Soprano voice is known far and wide. She received her bachelor's and master's Degrees from Brigham Young University in Voice Education and Vocal Performance. Upon graduation, Anna moved to Saint Paul, MN to sing with the Dale Warland Singers. She studied for a doctoral degree in Vocal Performance at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities (MN). She taught Music and Voice at St. Benedict/St. John’s University (MN), North Central University (MN), Bemidji State University (MN), Brigham Young University (Provo, UT and Laie, HI campuses), St. Olaf College (MN) and Utah Tech University (UT). Anna also performed with St. Paul Chamber Orchestra Choral (MN), the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square (UT), the Church of St. Patrick-Edina (MN) and Vocalessence (MN). Anna cantored in various churches in the Twin Cities in MN and her brilliant solo Mezzo Soprano Voice was heard in concerts and recitals at many venues including Carnegie Hall, New York City, NY. 

Anna was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Bill Mooy

She is survived by her sister Starla Woodbury and her children: Tara Perry, Garrett Perry, Kate Woodbury, Andrew (Emily) Woodbury (daughter Diana), and Christopher Woodbury. Her brother Daniel (Melissa) Mooy and their children: Rachael (Bryce) England (daughter Lola), Bennett Mooy, Ava Mooy, and Lucy MooyAnd Brent Braithwaite (Kent Weigle), former stepchildren Christian (Kassandra) Braithwaite, Lesley (Jason) Cox, McKay (Summer) Braithwaite, Graydon (Annie) Braithwaite and Emmalee (Stephen) Wilson.As well as stepbrothers Daniel (Angel) and Blake (Yasmin) Freed, stepsisters Ellen (Bryan) Spaulding, Marianne (Glen) Smith, and Stephanie (Todd) Butte.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E. Bengal Blvd. (7600 South). Visitation will be held at the same location at 12:00 pm. Internment will be at Salt Lake City Cemetery.
