After a brief illness, our dear mother, Alice Cleo Hayes Cook, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on November 12, 2024, at the age of 94.
Cleo was born in Grantsville, Utah on July 5, 1930, and later attended East High School in Salt Lake City. She later met and married Donald Southam Cook in the Salt Lake Temple on May 3, 1950. Her husband’s work often required him to move, so during the first years of her marriage, she followed him to California, Oregon, Washington, St. George and Panguitch, but her heart was always in Salt Lake where most of her friends and family lived. Cleo always enjoyed the company of her friends and family, often hosting large family gatherings on occasions such as Christmas, Thanksgiving or a simple BBQ during the summer. One of her favorite pastimes was building jigsaw puzzles while watching one of her favorite soap operas or game shows.
Cleo is survived by her six children: Vernon Cook (Gloria), Jeanne Low (Dan), Nancy Kitt (Doug), Carla Matagi (Heli – divorced), Darrel Cook (Sara) and Terry Tuttle (Scott), 18 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death on February 28, 2013. Cleo was always proud of the fact that, with the exception of the wife on one of her brothers, she is the last survivor of an extensive family and in-laws on both sides. She was always grateful to have lived such a long and healthy life. She will be missed by all.
There will be no funeral service at her request.
